Prototype for automated pupae-beetle sorting now running

We’ve been part of a project developing a prototype system for automated pupae/beetle processing.

This mechanical setup:
• Separates worms from pupae
• Allows pupae to develop into beetles
• Automatically separates beetles from the remaining pupae
All fully automated with belts and mechanical sorting — no manual handling needed.

The project was supported by Vereniging Agrarisch Landschap Achterhoek (VALA) Agrarisch Landschap Achterhoek, a region known for its strength in practical agricultural innovation.

Together with Lutemo, we’ve taken an important step toward scaling up sustainable insect farming.

This kind of automation brings the future of mealworm production closer — more efficient, less labor-intensive, and ready for wider adoption.
